Lake Macquarie is a wide council area wrapped around a very large lake. The towns on the western shore can feel a long way from those on the eastern shore, and the mix of buildings shifts as you drive around: industrial estates, rows of shops along the main roads, marinas, boat sheds and a lot of houses in between.
V&H Fire Group covers all of it. The lake sits halfway along our run, so both shores are on the way.

How the four services fit
New or changed premises usually begin with fire protection. That covers supplying and installing extinguishers, fire blankets, hose reels, exit and emergency lighting, smoke alarms and signage. If part of a job is electrical or plumbing work, we say up front how it will be handled.
Gear that is already on the wall comes under maintenance. This is the routine round of inspecting, testing, servicing and tagging, followed by a written report you can file.
Compliance is for owners, strata and property managers who need their fire safety measures inspected, documented and fixed so their paperwork can be completed. Which measures apply, and what has to be lodged, varies from one building to the next. The NSW Government sets those rules, and we will tell you when a question needs to go there or to your council.

What is particular about the lake
Light industrial estates. One row of units can hold a spray painter, a gym and a parts warehouse, each with a different fire risk behind a similar roller door. Gear that suited the last tenant does not always suit the next. When a unit changes use, the extinguishers, signage and hose reel access are worth checking again.
Shopping strips. Older strips tend to share walls and rear lanes, and the back door often doubles as the delivery point. Storage creeps into the path to the exit a carton at a time. The useful fixes are usually plain ones: a clear path, an exit sign that lights up and an extinguisher somebody can reach.
Marinas and boat sheds. Fuel, batteries, resins, solvents and timber are often kept close together near the water, in buildings open to the weather. Anything installed there has to be easy to find, and it needs checking for the wear that damp, exposed conditions bring.
Across all three, buildings get reused and rearranged, and the fire equipment has to keep up.
